Water & Utilities

The increasing rise of the population and the steady urbanisation of rural areas is placing a greater demand on the water and utilities industry. Generating and processing enough clean water is a challenge that require careful planning and long-term thinking.

W A Banner-07

The UK already produces 16 billion litres of wastewater every day, which is carefully treated across 9,000 sewage treatment plants and then returned to the environment.  Wastewater treatment plants are constantly at work, often relying on automation to regulate and perform each step of the process. System failure is not an option, while all control and monitoring activities must work seamlessly and safely.

The main issues that can occur on a wastewater treatment plant are:

➤ EMC issues onsite
➤ Damage to motors
➤ Lack of technical support
➤ Supply chain delays for urgent maintenance

For example, the wrong cable can sensibly reduce the life span of your drive motor because of stray current.

If you experience any of these issues, we have the right solution for you.

Drawing from our expertise in cabling solutions for extreme environments, we offer a wide range of products for the safe processing of wastewater, including power supply cables for pumps, drainage and treatment systems. We can supply everything on your design, with unrivalled expertise and know-how.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT
The wastewater treatment is a process used to remove contaminants from wastewater or sewage and convert it into an effluent that can be returned to the water cycle with minimum impact on the environment. Alternatively, the effluent can be directly reused for other purposes in a process called water reclamation. The treatment process takes place in a wastewater or sewage treatment plant where pollutants in household or small industry wastewater are removed or broken down. Because of the harsh environment it is important that the cables used can withstand various contaminants and be submersed for long periods of time. The LAPP H07RN8-F cable range is designed primarily with this application in mind; it is ideally suited to power submersible pumps, float switches and temporary power applications.

PUMP ROOM
As with any application it is important that all components work in synchronous harmony. This is especially true where variable speed drive motors are concerned. To ensure an uninterrupted operation to the motors and wastewater pumps, the cabling has to be designed with this in mind. The ÖLFLEX® SERVO 2YSLCY cable range is EMC compliant with a double screen to avoid interference from both low and high frequency noise from surrounding motors. The low capacitance of these cables allows for long runs and the 3+3 design ensures symmetry against common-mode disturbance effect which reduces pulse currents damaging the bearings.
