Handling on average five million passengers’ journeys every day, the London Underground (also known as the Tube) is one of the busiest and most famous transport networks in the world. LAPP was tasked to find a solution that would reduce overall installation costs of the London Underground’s lifts and escalators, while also meeting the London Underground rigorous LU 1-085 fire and safety standards.
We recommended ÖLFLEX® Classic 110CH and ÖLFLEX® Classic 135CH due to their stringent durability and fire safety, which make them an ideal solution for applications that might represent a life hazard. As with all cabling on the London Underground they had to be flame retardant, low smoke and halogen-free. Upon testing, the cables successfully met the strict London Underground safety standards and were then installed for the benefit of the whole network and its myriad of daily users.
